Jeff Smidt

Jeff Smidt is the Vice President & General Manager, Energy & Power Technologies Division at UL. Previously, Jeff served as the vice president and general manager of the Appliances, HVAC and Lighting Division at UL (Underwriters Laboratories). UL is a premier global independent safety science company with more than 117 years of history. Employing more than 9,000 professionals in over 100 countries, UL has five distinct business units—Product Safety, Environment, Life & Health, Knowledge Services, and Verification Services—to meet the expanding needs of our customers and to deliver on our public safety mission.

Mr. Smidt joined UL in 2004. His positions at UL have included commercial management of the Energy and Power & Controls industry segments, general management of the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) service line, and various operations management roles focused on process and systems optimization. Prior to joining UL, Mr. Smidt was a management consultant with Andersen LLP and BearingPoint.

Mr. Smidt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and information systems from Drake University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. He serves on the boards of the Electric Drive Transportation Association (electricdrive.org) and SolarTech (solartech.org). He is also a board member of the Chicago chapter of Autism Speaks.
