Energy Foundry is a venture capital fund that invests in and supports early-stage energy technology businesses. Building successful energy startups requires a unique approach, so we couple our investment capital with integrated support that is tailored to the needs of high-growth energy businesses. We are looking for an experienced investment associate who is passionate about building great companies and will enhance our team.



This role entails active involvement in all areas of venture capital investing and portfolio support. As an Investment Associate, you will have the opportunity to source and lead due diligence efforts as well as monitor and support Energy Foundry’s portfolio of investments. You will be part of a nimble, high-impact team, with direct exposure to our investment committee and all aspects of the investment process. This role offers a unique opportunity in a dynamic venture capital environment where your contributions will have substantial impact, and where you will have the opportunity to advance within the organization over time, including into a Managing Director role.



  • Deal Sourcing
    • Source new investments including meeting with founders and entrepreneurs, attending relevant networking events, and evaluating new prospects.
    • Build relationships with investors, corporations, universities and other strategic networks
  • Investment & Industry Analysis
    • Participate in all aspects of equity investment transactions including: sourcing, analysis, financial modeling, due diligence, structuring, negotiation and documentation
    • Formulate and present investment cases to our investment committee. Over time, take a leadership role in analysis of specific investment opportunities and sectors
    • Develop detailed operating and financial models to support investment decisions; model capital structure scenarios, perform sensitivity analysis and assess investment return scenarios
    • Coordinate efforts of entrepreneurs, investment team, and third parties throughout due diligence process and deal closing
    • Support in the development of reports and presentations to the Energy Foundry board
  • Strategic Support of Portfolio Companies
    • Monitor financial/operational conditions and industry dynamics of assigned portfolio companies, and assist with quarterly reviews with management team
    • Proactively work with portfolio companies to execute growth and operational improvement strategies in order to maximize value of investments
    • Support in the development of tools and platforms that will enhance our portfolio companies



The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with prior experience in consulting or venture capital, and in creating and using frameworks to structure problems, identify knowledge gaps, and synthesize information and data to formulate opinions. The following criteria are strongly preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a reputable university with a strong academic track record; relevant engineering ortechnical undergraduate degree a plus
  • Prior (1 to 3 years) experience in management consulting, venture capital, or as an entrepreneur
  • Demonstrated interest in energy / environment and working with entrepreneurs
  • Familiarity with the start-up ecosystem and/or the journey of an entrepreneur



  • Ability to drive a process forward through completion, and to effectively prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to interpret data and provide relevant conclusions/recommendations
  • Great relationship management skills – networking, influencing, collaborating – and a proven ability to build trust with entrepreneurs and other organizational partners
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for building and investing in early stage technology startups
  • Strong analytical capabilities and the ability to develop an investment thesis around companies / industries / competition
  • Demonstrable experience in performing qualitative and quantitative analysis in tight timeframes and simultaneously juggling multiple projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team or autonomously with little oversight
  • Business acumen and good innate judgment
  • A high standard of integrity and ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and a diplomatic interpersonal manner
  • Fundamental understanding of investment risk and the energy industry
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced and open environment with limited direction
  • Strong Excel modeling capabilities
