Coalition: Energy welcomes GE Ventures to The Current networking series

Last Thursday marked the kickoff of “The Current,” a new happy hour and networking series hosted by Coalition: Energy and supported by Energy Foundry and the Smart Grid Cluster. On the first Thursday of each month, The Current collaborates with an organization or company from the community to spark participation and growth in the energy innovation ecosystem. September’s partner organization was cleantech business accelerator Clean Energy Trust.

The series started off with a bang. Coalition’s space buzzed with a diverse mix of entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, nonprofit organizations and investors with one big thing in common: the belief that the energy tech revolution is underway in Chicago. Besides the quality beer and snazzy kegerator, perhaps the coolest feature about this first event was the opportunity to meet the leadership team from GE Ventures‘ energy team, who spent the afternoon getting acquainted with local energy ventures and the overall innovation community in Chicago.

The Current will continue to pulse on the first Thursday of October (10/2), and it’s already shaping up to be a great event—it’ll be run in partnership with Impact Engine, an accelerator program that supports for-profit business addressing today’s societal and environmental challenges.
